Vida Ali was born in the balmy island nation of Trinidad and Tobago, where her parents instilled in her the belief that “it takes a village” and that everyone should be treated like family. Those values have guided her life and career ever since. As a child, Vida moved with her family to the Washington, DC area, where she developed a strong sense of community and purpose. In 1984, she relocated to Los Angeles with her husband, Sage, and began a dynamic career in the entertainment industry.
Vida quickly established herself in the music business, first at Virgin Records and later Capitol Records in Hollywood. In 1992, she and Sage founded Vida Media Group (VMG), a full-service Public Relations and Management firm that worked with internationally recognized artists, major record labels, television networks, and film companies. Through VMG, Vida built a reputation for strategic vision, professionalism, and meaningful industry relationships.
While in Los Angeles, Vida remained deeply connected to her family’s legacy in Washington, DC. From her West Coast office, she led national media campaigns celebrating the 40th, 45th, and 50th anniversaries of the iconic Ben’s Chili Bowl, ensuring its cultural significance received national recognition. She also dedicated her time and expertise to nonprofit organizations, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, helping to positively impact the lives of children and families.
After more than 25 years in Hollywood, Vida returned to Washington, DC in 2010 following the passing of Ben Ali, the founder of Ben’s Chili Bowl. She now works closely with her family to expand the brand while preserving and advancing its powerful legacy. For more than 67 years, Ben’s Chili Bowl has been an integral part of DC’s history and culture, and Vida’s influence has been instrumental, particularly in Branding, Media Relations, and Business Development.
In addition to her daily involvement in the business, Vida serves on the Ben’s Chili Bowl Foundation Board of Directors, where she continues to make a meaningful impact on the DC community. She also serves on the DC Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Junior Achievement Board of Directors, Crittenton Girls, and IPPH. Passionate about supporting youth and families, Vida is actively involved with organizations such as No Kid Hungry, the Black Student Fund, the Latin American Youth Center, and other nonprofits dedicated to education, equity, and opportunity.
Despite her extensive accomplishments, Vida is best known for her integrity, work ethic, and unwavering commitment to excellence. Her positive spirit and calm leadership inspire those around her, earning her the reputation as “the calm in the center of the storm.” Vida has a unique ability to make even the most demanding work feel purposeful, collaborative, and rewarding. Above all, she strives to spread joy and uplift others—living by Gandhi’s words: “In a gentle way, you can shake the world.”
